Daxor Announces Yale-New Haven Hospital of New Haven, CT Acquires Blood Volume Analyzer BVA-100.
NEW YORK--(HSMN NewsFeed)--June 26, 2006--Daxor Corporation (AMEX:DXR ), a medical instrumentation and biotechnology company, today announced the receipt of a signed trial agreement from Yale-New Haven Hospital of New Haven, Connecticut.Yale-New Haven Hospital is a 944-bed tertiary referral center and is the primary teaching hospital for Yale University School of Medicine. Yale-New Haven regularly ranks among the best hospitals in the U.S. Relying on the skills of approximately 2,200 university-based and community physicians practicing more than 100 medical specialties, Yale-New Haven, the Children's Hospital and the Psychiatric Hospital provide services for more than 447,000 outpatient and emergency visits and 45,000 discharges each year. Yale-New Haven receives national and international referrals and, in conjunction with Yale School of Medicine and the Yale Cancer Center, is nationally recognized for its commitment to teaching and clinical research.
Dr. Stuart Katz, Director of the Heart Failure/Heart Transplant and Director of the Clinical Vascular Physiology Laboratory, stated, "Blood volume derangements are integral in the pathophysiology of heart failure. As one of the investigators of earlier clinical studies which reported that clinical assessment of a patient's volume status was only correct 51% of the time, and that patients who were treated to normovolemia had a 100% survival rate vs. a 55% death rate over a two-year period, I believe that it is important to consider the potential contribution of direct blood volume measurement in enhancing the diagnosis, treatment, and prognostic assessment of heart failure patients."
Other clinical studies by Dr. Katz and co-investigators who utilized the BVA-100 demonstrated the clinical utility for patients who are anemic. Dr. Katz noted that, "Correction of anemia has shown to improve the quality of life of patients with heart failure. However, it is extremely difficult to diagnose true anemia from dilutional anemia without the use of a blood volume due to the derangement in volume that is often inherent in heart failure, which often masks the true extent of a patient's anemia."
Blood Volume Analysis will be provided through Yale-New Haven's Nuclear Medicine Department. It will be available during the trial period for multiple clinical applications in which the diagnosis of blood volume derangements are necessary.
