Exagen Diagnostics Adds Three Director-Level Employees
ALBUQUERQUE, NM--(Healthcare Sales & Marketing Network)--Jul 21, 2006 -- Exagen Diagnostics, Inc., which develops and commercializes genomic marker-based in vitro diagnostic (IVD) kits for predicting risk of recurrence or treatment response, today announced that it has filled three new director-level positions. John H. Adair, Jr. has been named director, quality; John Burns, Ph.D., joins as lead software architect; and Petra Schwartz has been named director, human resources. Adair and Schwartz will be headquartered in the company's Albuquerque office, while Burns will be based in Houston, Texas.Adair leads and manages Exagen's quality department, which includes implementation and oversight of the quality management system and participation in the design and validation of clinical and non-clinical studies. He brings 18 years of quality management experience to the position, having specialized in the pharmaceutical, medical device, biopharmaceutical and in vitro diagnostic manufacturing industries. Most recently, Adair served as vice president, world wide quality at Immucor, Inc., which manufactures blood reagents and instrumentation. He has also held quality-related positions at companies such as BioPort Corporation, ROCAP, Schein Pharmaceutical, Abbott Laboratories and Becton Dickinson.
In his role as lead software architect, Burns is charged with guiding the development of the next generation of Exagen's proprietary genomic search engine platform, as well as software testing and maintenance. He holds a Ph.D. from Harvard, where he applied computational learning approaches to chemistry challenges. He also spent several years at Elsevier MDL in various software development capacities. Most recently, as a principle consultant, Burns conceptualized and designed new features for MDL's drug discovery informatics platform.
As human resources director, Schwartz spearheads the company's plan to significantly expand its employee base. She is also responsible for creating, recommending and administering policies, procedures and compensation and benefits programs. Prior to joining Exagen, Schwartz was an assistant trial attorney for the state of New Mexico's first and thirteenth judicial districts and worked as the director of equal opportunity services for Albuquerque Public Schools. Her extensive human resources experience includes positions at T-Mobile USA, Mercy General Hospital in Sacramento, Calif., and Santa Rosa Healthcare Northwest in San Antonio, Texas.
