Exagen Diagnostics Names Luc Van Hove Vice President, Quality, Regulatory, Medical Affairs and Chief Medical Officer

ALBUQUERQUE, NM--(Healthcare Sales & Marketing Network)--Jul 21, 2006 -- Exagen Diagnostics, Inc., which develops and commercializes genomic marker-based in vitro diagnostic (IVD) kits for predicting risk of recurrence or treatment response, today announced that Luc Van Hove, M.D., PhD, CSSBB, has joined the company as vice president, quality, regulatory, medical affairs and chief medical officer.

Dr. Van Hove is based in Exagen's Austin office, where he manages the quality, regulatory and clinical research department and its clinical studies. He also directs the coordination, review, compilation, assembly, filing and tracking of applications through the Food and Drug Administration review process to assure rapid review and approval of Exagen's diagnostic products. In addition, Dr. Van Hove's Certified Six Sigma Black Belt (CSSBB) credentials enable him to develop and implement business/process excellence into Exagen's structure and advance the company's strategy of continuing quality improvement.

Prior to joining Exagen, Dr. Van Hove had a 14-year record of success with Abbott Diagnostics, where he developed and led medical affairs departments and held worldwide responsibility for hematology, oncology, viral markers, fertility and systems development. Trained as a principal investigator, he has directed numerous internal and external clinical studies. Before his career with Abbott, Dr. Van Hove was a clinical pathologist at University Hospital of Leuven in Belgium. He also earned his medical degree, a PhD in immunology, his European board certification in clinical pathology and a postdoctoral degree in managerial economics at Leuven.

"We are thrilled to have someone with Dr. Van Hove's vast experience take on this crucial role," said James McClintic, Exagen CEO. "Filling his position has enabled us to round out the Exagen management team and now that this well-seasoned, professional group is in place, we can accelerate the development and commercialization of the highest quality diagnostic products."

About Exagen Diagnostics, Inc.

An emerging leader in the development of predictive in vitro diagnostic (IVD) kits, Exagen is uniquely able to discover, validate and productize small sets of genomic markers for use in oncology, infectious disease and other indications. The company's first tests predict the risk of breast cancer recurrence, so that women with a low or elevated risk of recurrence can be identified with high accuracy. Exagen plans to submit its first test to the Food and Drug Administration for clearance later this year, and will be the first to market a set of genomic markers to predict breast cancer recurrence using a fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) kit.
